Organic food (有机食品) is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as inorganic food. Some parents and pet owners pay up to 200 percent more for organic food while some people think organic food is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and inorganic food. Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides (杀虫剂). This makes sure that the products are natural.
Some people think “organic” means “locally grown”. At the beginning, this was true. Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply. Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren’t enough organic materials. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business. Today, many large companies have an organic line of products.
Is organic food more nutritious (有营养的)? This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers (消费者) believe it is. They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems, such as cancer. Many health experts disagree. Few studies prove that organic food prevents health problems. Health experts worry more about bacteria (细菌). These can come into contact with organic and inorganic food. Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully.
Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the extra money? This is a matter of opinion. Whether it is healthier or not may require more research. However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry.
4. What is probably the major concern of organic food consumers?
A. Price.    B. Safety.

I’m a girl in my late twenties and I live in New York. I go from my 8-hour-a-day full-time job to my part-time job, where I work for at least 4 hours if I’m lucky. I have half an hour to get from one job to the next, and I spend that time driving to the job, changing into my uniform, and eating if I have time. Even on weekends, I work anywhere 4–9 hours per day at my part-time job.
Every time I hang out with my friends or family, I’m never fully present. I’m either exhausted (精疲力竭的) or worried about my work. And when I’m with my family, everyone says that I work too much and should pay attention to my health. While I always argue that working hard is extremely valuable and admirable, I also believe that we all need to stop and smell the roses. Throughout the chaos (混乱) of my busy life, however, I’ve forgotten to do just that. Work has kept me so busy that I’ve missed everything that’s right in front of me.
Now, I’m making an effort to be present. I leave my phone in my purse when I’m with my friends and only take it out to take a few pictures. Sometimes, I go to a concert, watch movies or take a holiday to treat myself. I visit friends I haven’t seen for a while or try to call them, so we can talk for hours and catch up. And I make an effort to spend time with loved ones who I know won’t be around forever and I get to know the younger ones. Right now, I’m learning to do everything that makes me happy. I’m completely not guilty about my work-life balance because I know that enjoying life is truly worth my time.
8. Why does the author tell us about her work?

B. To complain she has a hard life.
C. To prove the pace of life is fast in her city.

10. What does the author like doing now?
A. Working as a leader.
B. Learning to take pictures.
C. Sparing time for her family and friends.
D. Taking long holidays with loved ones.
11. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Learning to stay present in life
B. Leading a life without a cellphone
C. Stopping feeling guilty about work
D. Making use of every day to the fullest

The African Children’s Choir (合唱团) is made up of children who are 7 to 10 years old from Africa. They have incredible voices and spirit that amaze the audience everywhere they go!
And they go to a lot of places, all around the world. And not only do they travel a lot, but they perform with some superstar singers and celebrities for heads of state. But this is not what makes the choir so special.
Like New York’s PS22, they do not just sing, but truly put their hearts, souls and bodies into their words. But what is unique about the choir is that it offers hope, education and confidence to children who live in extreme poverty. For example, the kids in the choir are mostly from the poorest countries in the world, such as Uganda. Many children live in one-room homes and walk more than 2 miles to get water for their family. Most of the children have lost one or both of their parents because of wars or diseases.
Through its music and education, the African Children’s Choir changes the lives of its children. It allows them to see the world. It gives them hope and confidence. It shows them that everything is possible. The choir even pays for their education through college. In 30 years, it has educated and changed the lives of over 50,000 children. And, in turn, the children return to their hometowns with new thoughts and new skills to help improve their family and community. These children are truly helping to build a better Africa.
12. What can we learn about the members of the African Children’s Choir?
A. They have no parents.
B. They are all ten years old.
C. Many of them live a hard life.
D. Some of them come from PS22
13. What is special about the choir?
A. Its positive influence on poor children.
B Performing together with famous people.
C. Its members truly putting their hearts into words.
D. Its members focusing on singing beautiful songs.
14. Paragraph 4 mainly shows the African Children’s Choir _____.
A. makes a lot of money    B. has become very popular
C. is very helpful to its members    D. helps 50,000 children go to college
15. The text is meant to _____.

How to Make Friends at a New School
Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes.   1   However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
2   If some people don’t accept you, they’re not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sports may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
3
Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don’t keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people.   4   Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you’re from.
Remember people’s names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.   5   Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname. You’d be surprised how often this may come in handy.
A. Be friendly to others.
B. Making new friends can be hard, too.
C. Join after-school activities like.
D. Never change what you are to try and fit in.
E. If you see someone you know, smile or say “Hi”.
