1. pleasant  adj. 令人愉快的;友好的
The house has a pleasant outlook over the valley.
房子俯瞰山谷,景色宜人。
Many pleasant hours can come from watching birds.

2. arise  vi. (arose, arisen) 起身;出现;由……引起
Some misunderstandings arose between me and my best fiend, which made me quite upset.

5. highlight  n. 最好或最精彩的部分  vt. 突出;强调;使醒目
The jazz concert was the highlight of our trip.
这场爵士音乐会是我们此次旅行的精彩之处。

6. freezing  adj. 极冷的;冰冻的
freezing cold  极冷的;冻僵的
freeze  vi. & vt. (froze, frozen) 结冰;(使)冻住

8. contrary  adj. 相反的;相对立的  n. 相反的事实(或事情)

9. proceed  vi. 行进;继续做

10. astonish  vt. 使十分惊讶;使吃惊

The result of the experiment astonished us all.

11. dusk  n. 黄昏;傍晚
